Comeback Medvedev Claims Maiden Championship in Nearly 30 Months

19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev secured his first trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial title after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt after spring of that year.

Success also indicates the Russian has won 21 victories at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

Yet the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

He came back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged break points in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his first professional victory, took control to push for a third set.

He saved 4 early opportunities in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
